Roleybushcare Art Exhibition - A resounding success
Roleybushcare is known locally for all its environmental endeavours in and around Roleystone but in October it tried something different - an Art Exhibition. Local artists were encouraged to venture into bushland reserves in spring to capture the magic of the bushland. Over 90 artworks were exhibited.
The exhibition was opened by Councillor Pat Hart who praised Roleybushcare for their initiative and energy to organise such an event. The opening event on the Friday night saw over 100 locals gather to chat about the art, the reserves and then on to other subjects.
Ian Colquhoun, chair of Roleybushcare, said "our principal aim was to get artists into the bush and create artworks that would entice others to visit the local bush but the Exhibition seemed to be a catalyst that had important secondary benefits. Somebody commented that it was like Roleystone of old when locals came together for a chat. This was great to hear and I too enjoyed meeting old friends and meeting other Roleystone residents".

Paul Mutton presented a very informative display highlighting the waste of beautiful wood when verges are cleared.

Roleybushcare would like to take the opportunity to thank the people and groups who contributed to the outstanding success of the Exhibition. The organising committee was composed of Roleybushcare's Ian Colquhoun and Diane Horgan working with local artists; Wendy Vanderlaan, Susan Angwin, Ian Dickinson and Boby Markovic - thanks for a wonderful job. Many thanks also go to the numerous Roleybushcare volunteers and their friends who helped throughout the event.
Bendigo Bank and the City of Armadale were the major sponsors and their support was critical to the financing of the event. The Exhibition was never designed to be a fund raiser but the support from these sponsors enabled the event to break even. Zanthorrea Nursery, Jackson Art Supplies and the local IGA are also thanked for their donation of gift vouchers.
