How do you know which is which? Just looking at a tall gum tree can be confusing at first but if you compare the following points then you will be able to decide.

Check the nuts on each tree first
The nuts of the Marri are larger than the Jarrah nuts.
Next look at the bark
You will notice that the bark of the marri tree is quite chunky and the jarrah tree's bark is quite stringy.
